The sale and purchase of homes in the Balearic Islands rose by 33.3% in April, the highest increase in the country.
The majority of the 1,244 operations were on free homes.
As reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the sale and purchase of housing has increased by 33.3 percent in the Balearic Islands last April compared to the same month last year, reaching 1,244 operations, the highest increase in the country. Most of the 1,244 purchase and sale operations registered in April in the Islands were on free housing, 1,219, and there were 25 more on protected houses. In addition, the bulk were second hand, specifically 1,035, compared to 209 sales of new buildings.
In the case of Spain, it rose by 11.9% last April compared to the same month of 2021, to 47,349 operations, its best figure for an April since 2008, when it exceeded 54,800 sales and purchases, as reported Monday by the INE. However, when compared to any month, the number of sales and purchases in April this year is the lowest since October 2021. With the year-on-year increase in April, which has moderated by more than 13 points with respect to the growth experienced in March (+25.6%), the sale and purchase of homes chains 14 consecutive months of positive rates, although that of April this year has been the lowest rise in that period.
The year-on-year upturn in home sales and purchases in April was due to the increase in new home transactions, which grew by 3.4% to 8,788 transactions, the lowest figure since April 2021, as well as the increase in the sale and purchase of used homes by 14% to 38,561 transactions, the lowest figure since December 2021. 92.4% of the homes transferred by sale and purchase in the fourth month of the year were free homes and 7.6% were protected. The sale and purchase of free homes rose by 12.8% year-on-year in April, to 43,731 transactions, while that of protected homes advanced by 1.3%, totaling 3,618 transactions. According to the INE, seven out of every ten home sales and purchases made in April (69.7%) were between individuals.
